B2Gold Namibia's Environmental department hosted their 4th B2Gold Otjikoto’s Summer School (BOSS), in early December 2022, under the theme “Landscape Function Analysis”.

The program is designed to help equip final year university students with environmental monitoring skills and offers the students valuable mining industry experience through exposure to practical studies in environmental management and rehabilitation monitoring at B2Gold’s Otjikoto mine operations.

BOSS is facilitated by staff members within the Environmental department and supported by guest speakers from other departments on topics such as the role of geologists, surveyors and geo-technicians in the operations of a mine, job hunting and interview skills, and mental health and wellness.

The collected data forms a valuable output of the program as it contributes to the operation’s rehabilitation monitoring dataset and aids in decision making for the site’s rehabilitation approaches.

The program helps to build the capacity of its own staff and university students alike. To date the summer school has trained 41 participants from the two main universities in the country. The participants receive certificates and reference letters upon completion of the program.
